Removing 4x6" altogether?

First off, the dash speakers are way over powered since they reflect off the windshield and onto your head.
Second, after I installed components with active crossover, the dash speakers, which are 2-ways, sound muffled and not as clear.
Thinking about just removing them.
Any thoughts on this?
I have a 4 channel amp and was thinking about just getting a matching set of components for the rear doors.

I think you're definitely on the right track with your thoughts here.

I removed mine when I started installing my system a while back. I pulled out all the old wire and then re ran all new 12g wire from my 3 way componet system crossover to a tweeter I installed in the grill, it sounds ten times better then any 4x6

My 4X6 Pioneer 2 Way plate speaker sounds just fine with a 400 HZ bass blocker.

I hacked apart the factory 4x6 speakers and used the metal leftover to mount my 5.25's to with rivets, made all the difference in the world, I have pics if you click my thread. I also used the bass blockers in the front and voices SCREAM now.

Yeah man, I removed all the bass frequencies on a friends setup and it was amazing.
But his head unit didn't seem to change the EQ for the sub outs.
My head unit only has one EQ and it changes sound for all RCA pre-outs.
I don't know if I like bass blockers...
But I have comps in all doors...they should filter all the bass out ANYWAY but they don't seem to.

i think you mean passive crossover.
if you were running an active setup, you could turn down the gain on the amp to thwart off the highs overpowering you from running them in the dash. But I'm pretty sure you mean passive crossover (little box where you connect all the speakers).

The crossovers for 99% of the component sets out there do not have filtering for removing sub-bass frequencies. The caps and coils in the crossovers are simply designed to provide a smooth roll off/on from the mid to the tweeter. Some offer tweeter level switching, others have protection circuits, but I've only ever seen a couple of sets with high pass filters for the mids built in. The manufacturers leave it up to the consumer/installer to make active adjustments to prevent distortion and/or destruction of the sets also for the fact that not everyone has subwoofers installed and if you didn't have a subwoofer AND the passive crossover that came with the component set filtered out anything below say ~100hz then the consumers would get pretty pissy pretty fast due to the fact they would have no bass at all.
