Default something wrong with my sub?

I've been having this problem for a while and I'm really not sure what it is. Its not a huge deal or anything but I've noticed when I start up my truck and start listen to normal music (nothing with a crazy amount of bass) my sub seems to be only working at half power. Now if I put a song with a lot of bass and turn the volume up quite a bit the sub will start working at full power. It will stay working full power until I shut off my truck and it will start the whole problem over again. I'm almost positive its not a wiring issue since it didn't start doing this for a while after I installed it and I check everything. I'm wondering if its being caused my my head unit, amp or sub? Has anyone else had any similar issues like this?

Im gunna guess the HU because the amp just receives a signal from the HU and gives power to the sub, and it sounds like the amp is working just fine because you say the sub sounds normal after you turn up the volume. So it sounds to me like theres a problem with the signal coming from the HU.

Just thinking about it thats what makes sense to me but that might not be right.

I'm thinking its the head unit but what would cause it to do that? I'd like it to be full power all the time because I have almost a perfect setting for regular listening when its working properly. I have an alpine ida-x305s if that helps. Now that I think about it ever since I upgraded to that unit from the older model of the ida I think it started doing it. I did buy the unit from best buy (discontinued, at least at best buy) for a really good price it was the display model could that have screwed something up? I've been thinking about upgrading to a double din, color screens are so awesome and my little 4" is getting boring haha

Im not exactly sure what would cause it, but i would start playing with the settings and see what happens.

I know with my alpine HU theres a setting that leaves the sub at one volume the whole time, but you say the sub volume increases so i honestly dont know.

Its just An annoyance to turn it up and down to get the sub working the way i want it to. I put my old alpin back in and the sub works fine. All the settings are almost identical. I might have to do some research about the 305s

the problem was my sub... it died last night. one of the internal wires broke, tried for an hour to sodder it back together but failed. I read somewhere soddering them back together isn't a good solution anyway. Don't think I'm gonna get another polk any subs you guys recommend? I'm not looking to get a new amp I want a nice hitting sub somewhere in the 500-700 watt rms without breaking the bank

Get you some Memphis subs, they are great quality and have a good warranty if you buy them from an authorized dealer.

I would highly recommend Fi, SoundSolutionsAudio, Sundown, and Incriminator Audio as well. I've used/played with/installed at least one model from each of these companies and they're all quite good, very well built, dependable subs.
