I purchased a blazer about 6 months ago for a good price. Engine was strong all the gears worked great, 4x4 worked perfect. It just needed a few normal wear items replaced, like the shocks. And the EGR valve needed cleaned no big deal.
I've been using it to commute to work because I can get 22-24 mpg out of it where in my truck ill be lucky to get 15. I parked it for a few days, and I was going to start it and drive it around a bit before I took it to the shop the next day for a oil change and check up before I go on my road trip.
So I checked the oil before I started it, as I usually do. Started and ran for about 10 seconds, then this horrible clattering noise started, so I killed it. Waited a bit and restarted it, it came back again but not as strong and only for a few seconds then it was over. The engine was idling smooth with no abnormal noises anymore, I let it run for a while. Oil pressure good.
After i let it run for about 10 minutes I killed it and went inside, and when I came back out there was a nice puddle of coolant on the ground under it. So I just left it. The next day I went and started it to take it too the shop, and it was ****ting coolant out from what seemed like the waterpump area. It made the noise again, just not as bad and not as long.
Can anyone give me an Idea of what it may be? Im fairly certain its just the water pump. After I purchased this I did find a cooling problem that I fixed(bad cap and clogged overflow hose allowing air in system). And the coolant that it had in it was pretty dirty so the pump was probably not getting proper lubrication. Ive never heard a water pump go bad instantly and making that noise, so thats what concerns me. It was very cold that day, about 5F not sure if that played a factor.

your water pump went out. There's "weep" hole on the underside. The 'clanging' noise is usually the bearing letting go and the impeller blades hitting the housing.
You need the water pump replaced, that's all.

i agree...sounds like just the waterpump is shot. just replace, flush and you should be good to go.
