The diagram I have shows two gray wires. Maybe in the vehicle they are different shades of gray.

The diagram I have says the gray wire is some time of serial communication wire for the stock radio. It also says gray is for illumination when the headlights are on. It says the purple/white stripe wire has something to do with instrument panel dimming.

I guess mines a dated wiring system compared to yours..
