Adding a second battery will only really hurt the alt if it's constantly charging a totally dead battery...
It's the equivalent of putting in a higher capacity battery...
If adding a second battery will kill your alt even faster, so will replacing the factory sized one with a beefier one...
It won't hurt the alt, it'll just take it longer to charge, when they're low.
