I'm in the process of getting better sound in my 98 4 door blazer and I want to start with the component speakers, then head unit, then sub. What is a good set of components I should get for a reasonable price? What sizes are in the blazer and how many? Also, my friend is getting rid of his 2 jl audio 10's for 100 bucks. Should I but these or will the sound not be good with these?

I seem to be good at finding what not to use. Don't buy anything Concept or Dual. They suck so bad. 4 dr's have six speakers, 6x9's and 6 1/2's, I believe. I really don't know cuz I have a 2 dr. JL is a good brand, buddy of mine has three 12's and they sound great.

I would also like to have suggestions about amps. Links to component speaker sets and amps would be nice and I guess everything I will need. I plan on getting an alpine head unit but that's all I really know. Thanks.

Depending on your price range, For components, Infinity makes a decent set 6010cs ($120), as well as a decent set of 6 1/2s in the 6012i's($66)
Focal makes great components but they are pretty pricey. if you can find the 165A's, nice bang for the buck.
CDT makes great components and 6 1/2's. Look into the KA-61's($99) , EF-61NEO's ($189) , EF-61FG ($199). and their 6 1/2's CL-6EX ($99)
But if you want to go a little off mainstream, Elemental Designs (website www.edesignaudio.com look into their Components eDi 6000s. about 145 per set. With these, you can mount the tweeter in the speaker, so, put the tweeter for fronts up in dash location and midrange in the door, and then mount the tweeter in the midrange for the back doors.
I would forget about the Dash speakers (if you actually have them) cause you will run into impedance issues if you try to run three sets of speakers off any headunit.
For Amps, look into Elemental designs nine.4x, kicker zx350.4, diamond audio 4 channels, or even the infinity 7541a is a steal for the price.
Stay away from Sony, Pioneer, Lanzar, Legacy, Sundstorm, Jensen, Audiobahn, and others.
All of these speakers except for the elemental designs can be found at www.woofersetc.com.

Thank you very much. I will be looking into all of that and once I decide I will check to verify I am getting the right stuff. So are you saying I should just disconnect the 2 front speakers?

do you have a factory head unit?? when you put in the new door speakers, just run new wire to the doors and take the factory wiring out of the loop. 14 gauge wire should work fine.

Ya I have the factory head unit in there right now. I'll probably buy the head unit and speakers at the same time.

Well, i'm not too experienced with car audio...at all really, but personally i've heard quite a few systems ( just have no idea how to set them up [
] ), but from what i've heard, for some reason or another, I like the sound of the alpine type R 12's... and as far as headunits go, i've tinkered with quite a few, and I seem to prefer Alpine...they look real clean too...pretty straight forward controls as well.

the R 12's do sound pretty good, but lack a little in the high range......but its prolly just my box holding em back. hits the lows pretty decent....
