I’m new to the forum. I’m in the market for a k5 project.
My friends grandfather passed away and left him this 1985 k5 blazer Silverado 6.2 Detroit Diesel. I would be paying $300 for it. It’s not running. The body has just surface rust with a little bit of rust on the door jamb. The interior is pretty rough but the seats are salvageable. In your experience, would this specific truck be worth rebuilding or should I let it go?

It's a little rough, but if the frame and body are solid, it's a good base. If you got some time and money they are awesome show pieces, if I had time and location, I would...
If that's the vehicle you want, its definitely worth rebuilding. It just depends how much time and money you want to put into it. Parts are fairly inexpensive and you can buy basically any part you want for those trucks.

The 6.2 engines have a bad reputation and are known for poor reliability. But I had good luck with the one I owned and you can still find them in salvage yards if needed.
I had a 1984 ex military M1008 CUCV blazer with the 6.2 diesel and I loved it. It was not the most powerful vehicle, but it was a blast to drive and I got about 20Mpg with it. The CUCVs came with TH400 transmissions and 308 gears vs the civilian trucks having 700R4 trans with overdrive
