Failfree, I'm impressed that you removed and installed a new engine in a short period of time!

Regarding camshaft retard, I had to install an aftermarket bracket on the distributor to allow it to rotate to zero. The same aftermarket bracket is also used on a Chevy 350.

L35 is an RPO code. Should say L35 on the glovebox sticker if you have one (and you should have one in a 1996-2002 Blazer). 2003+ Blazers had the LU3.

Bottom line, 1996-2000 L35 engines will work in 1996-2000 Blazers. 2001 - 2002 L35 engines will work in 2001+ Blazers. 2003+ LU3 engines will work in 2001+ Blazers. Reason is the mounting hole in the block for the knock sensor changed in 2001. They make adapters for this mounting hole (some better than others). Reason for a separate listing for 1999-2000 L35 engine is the transmissions in some vehicles required a different pilot hole size in the crankshaft for the torque converter (I don't believe this was the case for the Blazer).

IIRC the engine I bought for my 2001 Blazer from Jegs was a LU3 that they don't seem to have anymore.
