absolutly, the 1st gen '91+ GM grills rock!

those are gonna look amazing in white. i was actually thinkig you should have kept the stripe flowing through the grill, but it may be a little too much. and if you were gonna do that, then the whole grill should be done blue to match as well.

i think you called it right (leaving the cross bars black).

Thanks guys!

Well I have come to a crossroads with the project and I need some help. WIRING.
Zach and Jeff wired everything and it was running when I got it. 85 Jimmy interior harness custimized a bit, and 85 Jimmy under hood harness spliced with 96 Caddy harness for the engine. It runs the truck, allows you to tune it via the ALDL port, has headlights, tail lights, turn signals, and brake lights. That's it.
Fast forward, I have. 1992 Typhoon interior. Full power. Windows, mirrors, locks, fogs, alarm, keyless entry, etc.
I figured I could just install the Ty interior harness and then install the Ty interior around it. It LOOKS like it should work... I installed the harness last night and alas... The truck is dead in the water. Not sure why.
I suppose that without having the Ty shifter in, since it has the B&M Quicksilver right now, without the neutral safety switch, that alone would kill it. I need to find that little harness too. Any ideas on that one?

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Started some reassembly. Man this is gonna take awhile! I need to sandblast all my bolts and repaint them as they are kinda old looking. I grabbed some new hardware from a salvage yard today when i went to get a new door handle.

A window and a tail light. Woooo!

Here is part of the issue I think. I am going to run the Stock Typhoon center console and shifter, but I cant run the stock Typhoon steering column. I have to use the 85 steering column which doesn't have the cable that runs to the shifter, therefore I cant have the neutral safety switch in the truck because it all plugs into the column. I suppose I need to bypass it.

Any me how I know the difference between the 85 and 92 steering columns.... What a PITA!!

the 92 and the 85 Steering columns side by side.

Typhoon top and 85 bottom.

I have been thinking about how far this project has really come. It made me dig up the old pictures of the truck. So here is some interesting background info and pictures.

in July of 2006 my, then girlfriend/now wife, and her two kids (now stepkiddos) set out on a 2400 mile trip to buy a truck. A stripped and unfinished project truck in North Carolina. It just so happened that my sister lives about an hour away from the truck, so we used that as an excuse to visit her. It was the only time in my life that I visited my sister, independent of a family trip with my parents, before she died at age 35 in 2008. I have since adopted her son and we had a baby of our own, who will both grow up with a hot rod Jimmy in the garage. heh

On the way to NC to buy the Tyclone we stopped by Bowling Green KY (2 hours out of the way) to visit the Corvette museum. Here is a picture my wife snapped of me drooling over my dream vette. The 1996 Grand Sport. I bought one thing there that day. A original 96 Grand Sport brochure, which I used as reference to mask the stripes. heh

We stopped by Hotwire's house visit the truck and drop off my trailer for the weekend.

Then visited my sister for the weekend. Now that she is gone, it means alot to me that we made this trip. Thanks Tyclone.

We drove back to Hotwire's place where he is helping me load parts while his wife and little one say good riddance to the Jimmy! Little did she know that there were three more S10s in their future!

It was a fun and memorable bonding experience with the soon to be step children.

Seeing us at gas stations was a common sight on that trip.

And it made it safely back home!

Doesnt even look like the same truck.

Fast forward 3 1/2 years. ALOT has happened, ALOT of changed, but Im still working away at the Tyclone which I plan to have in my household for decades.

you can swap the lower sections of the two columns. been awhile since i've done one, but as far as i remember, you just start @ the top, and work your way down.

quite the pictoral you put up there about the road trip to get the Tyclone. sorry to hear about your sister, but that was nice to adopt your nefew. sounds like you've got quite the busy household!

i'll ask a buddy of mine again about the column swap, he's the one that helped me on the first one.

That is such a beautiful truck, you have an amazing attention to detail. I wouldnt change a thing about it. I just love everything about it. I think you are building my most favorite S series ever... WOW! That paint scheme couldnt be a better choice. AMAZING work my man! Im following this thread for sure. Making it look like a Gran Sport made me seriously Gran Sport a wood! That thing is going to turn heads and cause accidents once its on the roads.
