Hey buddy Like i said before i love your build i wish i was as talented as you and maybe you can give me some tips i have a 94 s10 blazer as you see in my avatar first time restory any vehicle and i always loved 1st gen blazer and finaly got one. here is my Build i have been taking part by part off and Spray can primering for now but i want buy a paint gun for primer and what but and for base paint and clear coat, i have a question for a few things

1. When you paint the base coat do you have to sand it before clear coat?
2. How much work am i looking at if i wanna get a lt1 and will i need a new tranny to match up with it
3. Where can i get the paint guns and do i need one for primer and base and clear?
4. And if you would not mind go into detail about primmering and painting process
And honestly i love your work great job and great step by step photos just by looking at your thread i think i learn quite a bit from reading thread

Thanks a bunch this has made me more exited about my project

So my most dreaded project of this whole build has begun. The dash and wiring. I HATE the dash and wiring. Ack ack. Especially since it has been 90s and above here in Texas for weeks.
The parts Blazer I bought recently is a 1993 fully loaded 4 door. The harness I would like to use is a 1992 Typhoon (fully loaded 2 door). By taking apart the 93 dash should help me be able to put the dash back in my Jimmy. I will still need the Ty harness for ease of installation. The only differences I know of are...the Ty had power mirrors, fog lights, and keyless entry. The Blazer has rear door power windows and locks.
I noticed a couple weeks ago that the dash in the Blazer has NO cracks in it but its blue. So I plan to paint the dash and install it in the Jimmy instead of the Typhoon dash which has a small crack due to living in Texas its whole life.

Anyway, on to the pictures.

Here is what I started with.

And here is where I am at now.

Doesn't this look like fun?? ack

Their are few people out there that would look at a bundle of wires, and be excited, lol.
What color are you planning on painting the interior? My guess is black.

I know it's been said before but, awesome project!

Yeah basically, a few other things. Exhaust, interior, and need to finish a few other little things here and there.

1) no you dont have to, not if its clean when its sprayed. If there is trash in it, you certainly want to clean it out first.
2) You can just buy the engine and tranny together.
3) any paint supply store, I primered mine with a Harbor Freight gun, BUT it was painted with a high quality gun.
4) Im not a great one to ask, I didnt paint my truck, my painter did it. I manage the shop, I dont paint. lol

I got my new red hash marks in. Two sets just in case something happens. lol
I also got my GMC TRUCK MOTORSPORTS on the tailgate. I want the red GMC with white TRUCK MOTORSPORTS, but I may change my mind and go with all white or change out some red letters.

i'd go with that one Greg, it "looks" more factory. GMC's "corporate" colour is red, and you always see the "Motorsports" in white. i'd be willing to put money on that most people wouldn't even notice/think it's a custom vynil piece.

as for the wiring (& dash removal) what's holding you up (with getting it out i mean)? once the bolts are all out, it's really not that difficult to get the wiring seperated from the dash itself.

as for splicin' 'n dicin' the wiring sytems............just find a nice big open spot in the shop (much better than my driveway!), lay both wiring systems out and just transfer over/repair the segments you need.

i had to do just that when i took a w-code w/auto truck's wiring harness, and put it into my z-code/5 spd Jimmy. it wasn't fast by any means, but i just traced where each system had to run, double checked that the colours matched (or made good notes if it didn't) and it all worked out. and i did it all without any shop manuals (which i'm sure you cna get ahold of) or any internet help. i actually didn't even think about search on there for any diagrams.
