well I've been screwing around about putting my blazer on craigslist I just don't want to let it go... I found a 2.5L s10 motor and transmission on craigslist the transmission is a 5 speed probably 2wd, I'm wondering if I picked that up if I could make the transmission work with my transfer case

most likely, as zr2's and 2dr models came with an optinal5 speed and they( if equiped with 4x4) had transfercases, and im willing to bet, the same ones.
PS. A 2.5L? ive heard no postive reviews from them, keyword: UNDERPOWERED

well after having my 4runner for a while now I hate to say it but but here is the bottom line...

Blazers are mediocre 4x4's, with all the stuff I did to my blazer it still doesn't perform as well off road as my 4runner does and my 4runner is still bone stock. There is way more travel in the suspension, a way better thought out 4 wheel drive system. Also blazers are way underpowered for how big of a v6 thats in there. my 4runner has 10 less horsepower but is almost a whole liter smaller and has a lot more bawls than my blazer ever had. I'm also getting 20+ mpg's and I'm running the same size tires as the blazer.

now, I'm not gonna completely bash blazers because I still love mine, the looks of a blazer are much better than my 4runner, I also beat the **** out of it and I never had anything major on it break. but I do now realize after my whole ordeal for what I like to do a blazer wasn't right for me. In order to get my blazer to do what I wanted it to do I needed to sink tons on money into it. So anyone who wants a good off road rig that'll go without doing a whole lot to it to make it trail worthy I would not recommend getting a blazer unless its an older full size or a zr2. lets face it the blazer was meant to be a mid size family suv that can handle the occasional hunting trail and bad weather conditions, great looking and reliable vehicle just not setup for real off roading. Heck I hydrolocked my engine and it still runs (somewhat).

so to any prospective new blazer owners or someone considering doing what I did in my blazer and reading over my thread take my advice and don't drop all kinds of money into your blazer to make it trail worthy its not worth it, get something that is meant for doing things like that, doesn't have to be a toyota, could be a jeep or a nissan, old ford, dodge, or chevy, maybe a land rover, I just don't want to see what happened to my blazer to someone else. So if your seriously considering having an off road suv or truck, I would strongly recommend researching your options before deciding. For a blazer I would say read over my thread see what you think, go to other forums and read other trucks build threads, weigh out the pro's and cons. This may be my last post on the forum, I've slowly been fading away from the site, I'll try and get on to help out questions and such, but I think its finally time for me to move on...

i have to agree, i just dont see the point in sinking money into these trucks, i loved my truck till i wanted to make a trail rig and i have been thinking of selling it since. instead of spending thousands on upgradesyou could spend that money on something way better. as soon as i get a buyer my jimmy is gone but i have had no bites for a while now. might just drive it till it dies i guess. i have not done many upgrades like benedict but i assume all that would be gained is looks which is depressing. it seems silly to go to so much trouble to put on 31 inch tires for example. almost any other suv truck or 4x4 can fit those stock.put a body lift on a jeep and you could fit 33s! any i cant imagine putting bigger tires on mine cause the things a pig on gas and has no ***** at all.

My blazer gets great gas mileage and still pretty much all its power with the tune, intake and exhaust after my 31's but having your speedo calibrated made up a big difference in my gas mileage honestly. To what wills said, A truck regeared could honestly move just as well as the truck stock if not even better with larger tires. Theres a guy with a 4 banger 4 runner on 38's that goes on the beach and wheeling all the time and has 5.29 axle gears and its fast and daily drives it and has to fill up every 2 weeks and gets over 25+ on the highway believe it or not but i do understand your other points as said. These trucks werent meant for extreme offroad honestly but I will say i did pull a 7000lb Suburban and over 35 vehicles out this snow storm including a box truck. She may not be fast but she makes torque

Your blazer was truck of the year and that has said a lot even without words. You were and are still an inspiration man. You gave people on here a lot of ideas.

But I have to disagree with you on one thing. The blazer nor any other suv was meant to go fast. It has power yes to pull stuff or to go somewhere. But that is all it needs. If you want more power or to go faster, go get a sports car. Trucks were meant for torque anyway. And since the blazer's 4.3 is essentially a 350, that should tell you it wasn't meant for speed. The 350 is slow yes, but like what you saw on topgear america, it is bulletproof. By saying the 4.3 has no *****, you are also knocking the 350 that it is based off of. I think both engines are strong and are meant for durability. They have flaws like okay gas mileage and a bit slow but they will hold up. Just had to get my .02 out lol.
