Default Crazy Blazer engine swap

Call me loonie - I am going to try and swap out my really tired 4.3 (302,000 Kms) in my 2000 LS 4 dr for a L67 3.8 turbo out of a 98 GTP. Anybody tried this before ? advice would be appreciated.

I would enjoy seeing this, but just for clarification, is the 3.8 a front wheel drive engine that sits sideways?

the L67 is a supercharged motor, unless the GTP has been converted to turbo, its going to be supercharged.

stock they make 240hp, 280ftlbs.. 45-50more HP than the 4.3, and 30 (give or take) more ftlbs, but its also a smaller motor, built for a lighter vehicle. I think you're going to have better luck sticking with the 4.3. Not to mention the headache you're going to have to go through to get it to fit, line up with the transmission, wiring, etc.. I don't think the 4t65e and the 4l60e share the same bellhousing pattern

good luck that is a front wheel drive engine. It would be easier to find a 3.4 rwd engine from a rear wheel drive car which is basically a 2.8 engine with a diffferent stroke crank in it. then you could use a stock 700R4 from a 2.8,3.1 or3.4

Problem #1 - While starting to tear it apart I found the front differential housing has broken off at the mounting tabs on the left side - Never seen this before!

Problem number 2...

FWD and RWD engines have different bell housing patterns. Big blocks and Smallblocks and RWD V6 engines all have the same pattern. I could be wrong but they just look different to me.

Problem number 3...

Your motor mounts are going to be way our to lunch on positioning since they use a subframe and upper dogbone to stay in place. Nothing some fab work couldnt fix.

Prolblem number 4 and 5...

Your coolant hose is going to come off near your brake booster and your throttle opening is going to point right into the firewall Might be tough finding a hose that fits...

Problems number 6...

FWD engines sit deeper and your oil pan wont clear the trucks crossmember. But that can be fixed by lifting it up with the custom mounts.

Please do this custom as this would be a super cool mod and Ill keep watchin. Throw up some photos of this 3.8 turbo?

You should check out the differences between your GTP V6 and the V6 Turbo that came in a Grand National - that was a RWD V6 3.8. Not the same engine you have at all.

Unhappy Project has died

I have had to scrap the project - while tearing the truck down I discovered that the front differential mount was broken and the frame on the passenger side is rusted through in several places. Not worth the time /money and frustration. Looking for another truck
