custom front bumper

yea i figured as much id have to do that. so is there like a tube frame that your welded the steel to or is it just sorta like a shell? idk if its just bc im tired and i cant think right haha but to me it seems like id have to build a frame for it and then add the steel around it. but i guess if i just got thick enough steel it can just weld it together and it should be pretty good. id assume yours is like hollow if you were to look at it from the under side

No theres no frame to it. What you see is what it is. I used 3/16 steel for the bumper and its heavy. lol

Just thought I would share the beginning stages of my custom front bumper on my 98 blazer. It is made from 3/8'' by 5'' 6061 aluminum stock.

I commend you for being able to weld Aluminum. Looking good so far, are you going to have the bumper going straight down or are you going to make them angle inwards? Would look great the latter, if you can picture what I'm pictureing lol.

There will be another set of plates angled inward below these. I only had like 2 hours to work on it before the boss had to take off. Hope to finish it next friday. Unless I can bring my machine home and set it up.
I might start building these to sell if I can get enough interest.

Those are some sexy welds. Looks just like the welds on the chassis of my sled, and those are done by a welding bot.

All the open angle lines onthe front that you can see will be welded solid with angle braces every 8 or 10 inches inside. I would venture to say that when I get done with it, it will be stronger than 3/16 steel. Also, aluminum doesn't rust. If I start making these I can make them pretty much any way someone wants. Honestly these are the easiest thing I have fabricated since I started working. If you want to see what I build during the week check out Pursuit Boats. I build the tops, seats, handrails and a few other parts.
