2001 blazer extreme just begging me. I can’t stop reading and thinking about it. It will be easy. I don’t understand the wiring. Ahhh it will be easy. Ok so I’m starting this to document.
I will start with what I have so far. Blazer extreme with 4.3. Trucks lowered so I’ve not even looked at tranny I assume 4L60E.
Donor engine ecm and wiring harness is from 2002 Silverado 4x4. From local junkyard!! Motor mounts/trans crossmember/ steering shaft. I got from local guy off Facebook market place. Going to pick and pull maybe today to get electric fans and some interior pieces if I can find them.
Did I mention how easy this is gonna be. Lol. I don’t have a clue. But I’m going for it. Any help is appreciated.
I will start taking wire harness off first and sorting that mess. Looks like motor was robbed of the starter. Some of the harness is also missing after closer inspection. Cut wires Starter is missing
Broken exhaust manifold bolts are VERY common on the LS engines of that time. You'll want to get those manifolds off and get a set of ARP manifold bolts to replace them with before you put the engine in.
I wouldn't worry too much about the oil in the throttle body. It likely is just from the PCV system. Those engines could recirc quite a bit of oil back into the intake and it could catch/collect in certain areas inside. What you could be seeing is one of those areas being allowed to slink forward in the tossing & turning of the motor in transit to your place.
It does suck that the harness is hacked up though. It also is unfortunate that you have a 4wd transmission from the donor and not a 2wd. Would have been nicer drop the whole drivetrain down in as a matched pair and use the PCM, everything.
Great to see some life on this forum!! Woot!! I’ve not bought a transmission just yet. I will have to wait for the right buy. I was under the impression a 4L60E the V6 came with will bolt right up minus 1 bolt. Tell me I’m wrong and this can’t be done? The lil V6 is still blasting around town. So I’m waiting to pull her skirt up to have a peek. I’m also not planning on notching crossmember we will see if I get that lucky.
It will bolt up. If I remember correctly the builds are a bit different between the v6 and the v8 transmissions with the v8 4L60E being able to handle more torque than the v6 version. Just food for thought. I'm sure someone with more transmission knowledge can expand on that further.
Great plan is to save money from buying a trans and get the servo from vette and beef up what I have. Imma get this engine cleaned up tonight and I’ll post some more pics. I don’t want to say I’m doing this or that because I don’t want to mislead anyone. I am taking one step at a time. A transmission guy will pop on here I’m sure but I don’t wanna turn this into a trans dispute. I think this has the return style fuel rail! I’ll post pic someone tell me!! I believe this is what to look for on return style s10 came factory plumbed
Many have used the v6 trans behind a stock v8 without troubles with the in-pan mods you mentioned. I thought if you were already planning on doing the transmission or if you were planning on upping the power you would want to be aware of the limitations.
That is a return style fuel system. I'm pretty sure all of the 00-06 (possibly 07) trucks came with this style fuel system. I have a 2004 Tahoe 5.3L sitting under my work bench at the shop that has the same setup. It needs a new crank & a few new rods though, but I only paid $30 for it years ago and I already used the brand new knock sensor wiring harness & set of knock sensors off it so it doesn't owe me a thing.
