Default My Build Lots of Pictures. 96 Blazer Help and insight appreciated

After looking on this site for the past 6 weeks. I am hoping to get some good insight as i continue to dismantle my Blazer and then put it back together.

I currently have removed all Trim from the interior except the dash and the 2 pieces by front seats that hold seat belts one bolt rusted and stripped so i decided not to mess with them.

I have painted most of the interior trim pieces with truck bed liner all pieces going from back around foot board to the dash. I painted the dash grey and the doors grey with all vinyl on doors blue. the vents are blue with black trim on the grey dash. It is holding up well so far. have not reinstalled them. I also dig the headliner in dark grey.
The radio never worked i think the antenna was disconnected or something to that effect. I currently have nothing there but would like to put a touch screen GPS/Radio there If anyone has done this please recommend a correct setup. The more i read the more i can get confused.

I plan on painting the blazer first.
I have 2 kinds of primer right now not sure what to use. Dupli-Color Primer or Rustoleum Primer. One says lacquer on it i was going to do the Acrylic lacquer system but not sure since i cant get a lacquer mixed. Dont know if the enamel they mix at the store will work with that primer. I also think the Rustoleum is also a lacquer not sure. Want to keep the Base and clear under 250 if i can with a mixed enamel costing 170 at the store i called.

After the painting I am going to Spray the exterior trim Bumber front and rear and rocker with Truckbed Liner. The Rustoleum Spray on. Was going to Roll.

I have done a rough sanding of 120 and 320 around most of the vehicle. i have not gotten inside the jambs yet but will try and get in there as best i can. Not sure if i should go through the trouble of taking the doors off.
I need to have this road ready by May 5th.

Question. I think i am going to do acrylic enamel basecoat with clear coat. How long should i let that site in the garage before i take it out to make sure it is hardy enough to be on the road?

I also would like to change the bushings on this but not sure if that is a very hard job. It will need to be done after May5th will be going camping and need to use this vehicle. tough job considering its condition right now.

Hopefully i can get all these pictures on here
Any Ideas and insight to what i am doing please feel free to chime in would like to have a conversation about all of this.
I currently have most tools to do main work. 2ton jack, Air compressor with main tools. Sprayer, Ratchet, Air hammer, Impact Wrench, grinder, Drill and so forth.

Below the engine block there i s alarge amount of build up of oil or something. It does not leak anything of couse i dont drive it often enough. But since it has been in this driveway 2 years no leaks. Any thoughts on this is it just over the years or something worse? I will be cleaning it best i can and see what happens. if it returns or starts leaking or maybe do nothing it maybe what is stopping it from leaking.

I am working heavily on this Today and tomorrow 4-1/4-2 so any advice on these things today is the day.

Default updated pictures

Here is where i am now. I managed to prime my hood. and sand almost every inch of my car. i did notice the large black sphere on the hood. the hose was broken to it. i am guessing this is the reason my vents don't open correctly. based on what i googled.
the top of the engine also has that black oil covered every where. not sure what to make of it. i was using the rustoleum primer it was not good to start took me forever to mix and get it right not sure if this is normal. i did mix a little mineral spirits on the second pass to spray. the first time it was think and tended to send large bits out. The can says to use 1 part primer 1 part reducer. if that was the case they should sell reducer at autozone. over all i think i am off to a good start.

And for the oil buildup, I would say maybe just from over spills and road debree... But I'm a driveway mechanic so don't take my word lol... I just found 7 out of 8 bolts loose on my lower ball joints today!

Default Thanks

Thanks,
it has beena lot of work more than i thought i would take on. Same here in terms of driveway mechanic. I managed to take everything off i could. i started priming the hood to test the gun so far so good. i pray in 3 weeks i can come back with some amazing pictures we will see. I have a dead line of may 5th to get on the road. so iw ould like to get it painted this week so it has time to cure. Structurally under the car is mostly rust. Not sure if something might be loose. I am afraid to movve any bolt with fear of it breaking off and really screwing me. that is my next big push after the repaint and installation of all the trim. This will be my summer project. Will also be building a Camping box with drawers int he back. fun times ahead. just need my wife to slow her roll and relax a little. She is in a constant state of panic thinking our summer is ruined and we will never get outside again she could be half right. one day at a time

Here is a picture of the color on a Ford. i was lucky enough to find one in the parking lot of lowes and just cuaght the guy walking out. I was hoping i picked the right color he showed me the color code on his and i was right. SZ from Ford. is the color. I have primed the entire car right now. even the hinge area. i did not remove the electric rubber gasket before but i did the passenger side after the fact it is hard to get the rear one off with all the wires. will be doing the other side as well to make sure i put a nice solid black gasket back in.

I will be painting the jambs and roof first. Jambs just to get the color in there and the roof to test my spray pattern without to much risk. The roof is hard to get to. I have only 1 gallon so i am hoping it is enough. I planned on doing the rockers below in truck bed paint so i might be able to safe on material. This has been a very very long and tedious project. I am thinking of doing the base coat int eh garage with it all taped up. and having fans blow in and out the lower garage door with a vent. hopefully this sounds good. I did the primer outside because it was easier but i dont want to risk anything with the base coat. I have 3 weeks to complete this project. May 5th i need to be cam, ping with this and kayaks on top nothing is attached it right now
everything is off. rear front bumper back bumper quarter panels all handles taken off. Im not even sure were my roof rack bolts are. so many things going on. Fun and stressful at the same time. I am hoping to get jambs and roof today so we will see how it turns out. after the jambs and roof done i will block sand the exterior and over spray off.

anyone have any thoughts feel free to chime in

Love the color. It's along the Sonic blue for the viper. Great pick!
