Yeah, as I mentioned they were A LOT worse then I expected. I've heard (and seen) that fibreglass doesn't last nearly as long as welding a new patch in would, but honestly I already have all the material to fibre glass it and I don't know how to weld so it's an easier route for me. Besides that I think with the bedliner it should be strong enough and last a decent amount of time.

Yeah that bedliner will add some life to the expectancy for sure. Besides, never know if you end up find a deal on a Suburban like you were looking for before this patch job gives out/starts to wear.

Sisky boy, do you need to cover both sides of the fiberglass? (idk if you can reach the inside of that panel) for extra strength

IMO, if you are going to do the bed liner thing on the bottom, cut out the rot and weld in a patch panel. Glass is just going to cover up the problem and it'll be worse down the road.

Yeah, who knows. I do plan on going full sized eventually.

I won't be able to reach inside of the panel, so no..I'd only be doing the outside.

This would be the ideal method (and what I'd like to do). Unfortunately I have to see if I can find someone who is willing to weld it for me. With my furnace going that's a $3000 expense I wasn't expecting. We'll see though...I'm not 100% of the fibreglassing yet. It's my resort if I can't find someone to weld it up. My problem is I need it done pretty quick to avoid it spreading...

Can you just grind off the offending pieces and paint it for temporary and then just resand/grind the paint off when you patch it? No idea if that a sane idea... but hey... Couldnt hurt could it?

I agree. Grind the cancer, then spray some primer over the area. It'll help keep it from spreading.

You can get a halfway decent mig welder for about $100. Welding isn't hard to pick up on and it doesn't have to look perfect if your gonna put bedliner over it anyway.

I think I'll probably do that as a temporary measure.

Thats true about it not looking perfect. I did find someone who can weld it up pretty cheap though, so I'll probably just prime it for now and then weld it up next month or so. Thanks for the tips everyone! Body work is not my specialty...lol
