I believe it is a good compromise! I love the look. I'll probably only lift and 1.5 -2 in max. Working on ordering steering stabilizer now to help
Be warned that with the lift, the larger tires will not look so large. LOL That is what happened to me. Sounds like you are going down a similar road as I did with mods.
Do you think an 1.25 will be fine not looking for much. I will just upgrade shocks...do the vw baja bug coilover for fronts and monroe load leveling shocks for rear. Simple t bar crank and a one inch shackle. Do you think that would be good
I would look into the upper control arms from a 2" lift kit as well, you will be happy you got them, itll help with keeping the front end geometry "level".

Yeah, take a look at what I did on my build thread (link below) to see what I did and if any of what I did seems like a good fit for you. It all comes down to the compromises necessary to get the truck we want for what we will be asking of it. For me I wanted some peace of mind on when off-pavement and to be able to tow my boat. This translated into a mild lift but with the Rough Country upper control arms, upgraded front brakes and upgraded cooling system. I also wanted to avoid any major modifications which would come in if I had gone for the 2.5" lift with the Rough Country kit and the larger fitment issues with the 31" tires. All that said, I totally can see where the RC 2.5" lift kit would be the way to go; e.g. if I did more off-roading or towed less. It is all a balance.

Yes, the point of the aftermarket upper control arms is that they address the issue of the angles for the upper ball joints being close to the limit of their travel if using the stock upper control arms. That is why I went with the RC ones. There was another brand (Super-Lift?) that used the stock ball joints whereas the RC ones use ball joints for a 1/2 GM truck. Also, the non-RC ones required some sort of modification of the front shock upper attachment point I think.
Finally got some Rancho installed. Could of saved about 450 bucks, but I got a lot going on with fiance out of surgery and tons of side work. I let midas install them. I did a set of 5000x shocks all around, but I have some 9000xls for the rear if I feel the need for a stronger shock in future. Between going to the 30s and getting shocks replaced I've gained about a 1.5 of height. So far the are riding well.
I went on some trails to test them out.. definitely different. I bottomed out a lot the last time. it was much better this time, I don't dip as much when I brake also. Sway when turning has also cut down
