00' 2wd V8 Swap
I've read all the threads on here about the Swap. About to order the Manual from JTR, but it look like the 2nd gen S-series doesn't have a lot of info.
2000 4.3l 4dr 2wd
With that being said, I had my motor rebuilt about 4 months ago and it just blew on me again... The machine shop wont touch it, as its out of their 90day warranty! So my mechanic is looking it over tonight and will let me know if the motor is dead again or if it was just a head gasket. He will be installing this with my help, since the last motor died so soon after rebuild.
In the mean time i've been look into dropping a 5.3l Vortech into it. So far it looks like all my accessories, ECU and tranny will bot right up no problem. The only thing needed would be to extend and add two wires for the new cyclinders then flash the ECU to the V8 firmware.
Since its a 2wd, would I aslo need a new oil pan like the 4wd or will the stock work fine on this?
I have found a 2000 5.3l LT w/ 90K for 250$, Trying to find a 00' camaro starter.(JTR said its needed for clearnce)
If I decide to swap the tranny would the same trucks tranny work for me? also what would go into swaping that out?
Anyone who has info please help, or if you've done this on a 2nd gen 2wd.

The 5.3L is not a direct swap concerning the electronics. You will need a PCM from a donor truck to run it. The major difference comes with the coil on plug ignition system vs. the distributor type ignition on the 4.3L. If you can get the complete truck, then it would definitely make things easier as you will have to graft wiring harnesses together to maintain functionality.
The easiest swap is to the SCFI 5.7L v8 which still uses a distributor and almost the same sensors, sensor locations, etc. That is the swap that you would do and only have to extend wires for a few sensors and add the additional injector wiring.

the 5.7 is whats in a 00' chevy 1500 right? I think I had by numbers wrong I'll check on the motor. But it is the 5.7 that would be the easiest over all. No extra nonsense to buy or fab.
Ok so i'm looking for a 1996-2000 GM Vortec 5.7L V8
If I buy the manual from JTR will it explain all the parts needed for my swap?

They have a section on the 2nd gens, but do not cover anything in too great of detail like they do for the 1st gens. The broad strokes are what I covered above. You very well may need to put a higher flow fuel pump in as well.
