Default 1999 Blazer, RPMs FLuctuating,

Hey new to this forum, was a jeep person but the future wife said the blazer was better,

The blazer's rpms our fluctuating and jerking, about 200 to 400 when you try to accelerate at all, mainly once the car gets into Overdrive, don't know who to ask? One suggestion was the spark plug, The car drives great and it doesn't feel like the tranny. Anyone has an idea i would appreciate it.

Thanks

David

Welcome to the forum.
Does this only happen at cruising speed? Like around 40 mph?
If it's ok at idl and accelerates ok, try driving in D"3" instead of "D".
If you no longer experience the problem, it's probably the torque converter clutch solenoid.

That's the best I can think of with the information you supplied. If you can explain the problem in more detail, we might be able to figure it out.

Yeah it does it in 3rd too. it doesn't do it too much, but when i am crusing along and try to accelerate a bit, the rpms rise and fall 200-400 instead of a constant rise say of 600 -800 to give me more power, if i play with the pedal I can get it to accelerate normal with a little extra pressure but it has changed from how it use to run. I have a young mechanic trying to diagnosis it but thought you folks were a better rescource.

Thanks Again

David

RPM's only fluctuate when there are power spikes in the engine.

I would check:
1) Spark Plugs
2) Cap
3) Rotor
4) Wires
*in this order

I have run into a few that turned out that a few of the plugs were bad. Most of the time turns out to be plug 1 and 3 (driver side front two). Even the Chevy Dealership would not check this for it ( I know I asked them ), they also have a newer TBS about the PVC valve (wished I would had nabbed that copy sitting next to me when I was at the counter). Something about the solid PVC valve is suppose to be switched out with an older style (more common) PVC valve. So if you have the solid PVC valve get it changed out.

I have the same problem. I have a 96 and when im going around 40mph, it sort of hesitates a little bit. Nothing really noticeable unless your the driver, but its still a problem. A few days ago, I was going around 35-40mph and the tach would stick. It wasnt rising at the same rate. It would stick, then move, then stick. It felt like it was running fine though. That only happened once. Can someone help me with the hesitation at cruising speeds?

My 98' Bravada does the same thing, at 40 mph, it also refuses to shift from 2-3 unless I do it manually... I'm thinking about just getting a new tranny
