What year do you have and is it 4wd or 2wd?

I'm betting that if you have the 2.8L, that it's a mid to late 80s blazer (possibly early 90s). If that's the case, they your best bet would be to rip out the anemic 2.8L and drop in a small block v8! There really is nothing available to help out the utter lack of power.

i think edelbrock makes some stuff for that motor, but like swartlkk said, your better off dropping in a small block if you really want more power.

Short of doing a engine swap the best power upgrades are new exhaust system including a new cat (unless you have had that replaced recently), and a better air filter. Something like a K&N. The 2putt8 doesn't put out alot of power to begin with, although back in the early 80's it was considered a race engine in the V6 class for light weight, midsized trucks. The 4.3L V6 pretty much made the 2putt8 a dinasour over night. I have a '87 S10-Blazer with the 2putt8 and I use it for off-roading and my sons DD. IT does just fine in both applications. I know he won't be drag racing the thing, and it has plenty of power to go where I need it off-roading. For NOW!!!! That will change once the DD status is dropped.

If you are going to swap engines. Drop in a 3.4L V6 from a rear wheel drive car. It is a direct bolt in. GM stopped producing the 2.8L engines. I you buy a remanufactured engine it will be a 3.4L V6. The 3.4L is nothing more then a 2putt8 bored out bigger and it puts out 20% more horsepower and torque. Everything on your current 2putt8 will bolt up to the 3.4L engine. I have heard swapping in 4.3L V6 injectors will give you decent power on the 3.4L swap.

IF your going to drop in a V8, go for a 5.7L (350), why fart around with a 5.3L which is marginally better then a 4.3L. Dropping in a 4.3L will require just as much work as dropping in a 5.3L (305), or 5.7L. Might as well get real power when you do an engine swap, unless your looking to keep it close to stock and not swap trannies too. Then go with the 3.4L.

ya for my 2.8L i got my cat-back exhaust done and man can u feel the enhanced power. the 2.8L was rated at 110hp and i bet i got 10-15 hp out of the exhaust so that is like a 10% increase and u could totally feel it. the 2.8 is still totally gutless but slightly less gutless now and plus now it sounds wicked haha. im in the process of doing up a 4.3L and dropping it in my 86. its going to be a lot of work basically the same amount of work as putting in a 350, but the 4.3L was free so im just gonna work on it and hopefully all goes well. but for performance mods for the 2.8L there is basically none but exhaust and an air filter like hanr3 said. the 2.8 is very weak and if you add a bunch of horsepower it wont last long i guarantee it. either get your exhaust done for a bit of horsepower and maybe a new air filter, or else look for a new beefy engine.
