2.8l to a 350 motor swap
alright i got given a deal on a 350 motor thats been well taken care of! i wanna kno what it would consist of to swap a 2.8l in a 1985 gmc jimmy 4x4 to a 350 i hear the tranny i have will also bolt up to the 350 so what else whould i have to do????????

The trans off a 2.8 will not bolt up. The one out of a 4.3 will. You will need motor mount adapters. New radiator. Camaro manifolds or headers.
All I can think of. Been a few years

radiator - the 2.8 has the inlet and outlet on the wrong sides.
motor plates - 2.8 mounts work just fine and are stronger than 4.3 mounts
Exhaust - headers or manifolds
Trans - the 2.8 uses a 60 degree bell housing pattern and the 350 uses a 90 degree so they wont' swap.
Rear end - if you go light on the gas it might last a bit but 7.5 inch 26 spines don't like much horsepower
if its a 4x4 not much you can do with the front to get stronger (besides a SAS), just take it easy when the front is locked in.

my brother in law is a damn good mechanic and he owns a chevy full size truck 4x4 that has the same tranny as the one on my blazer and it came stock with a 305 and now holds a 350 with a souped up cam! he says it will work but i wanted a second opinion i dont know if my truck is 100% stock but the in law says the rear end is geared high so that it shouldnt have a problem high torqued i dont know much im just starting out in this career path so im learning and i'd love all that is necessary for this to take place! and what needs to change to make the 4x4 stronger i like to mud ride a bit im not hard on the motor so just wondering! and is there known problems with the rear passenger break? its continuously leaking break fluid any ideas?

go ahead and try to mount that transmission up to your v8 and see if itll work
not quite sure if the trans behind the 2.8 is considered a 700r4 but even if its the same trans as the fullsize. the shape where it mounts to the engine is different.

well is there a way to change the bell houseing? whould that be cheaper?

Both have a 700r4 but the bell housing bolt patterns are different and the tranny case is a one piece design. My dad is a damn good mechanic and I have personally had my hands under the hood of at least 6 v8 s-10 swaps now with another one in the works.
Try looking over at www.v8s10.org

thats the cool thing about going from a 4.3 engine you can pretty much just slap a 350 in since the 4.3 is basicaly a v8 with two cylinders hacked off.
v8 swaps get pricey mine ran me about 2k and i used pretty much all junkyard and cheep stuff.

well how much pain in the *** would a swap from a 4x4 to a reg 2wd?
#10
^^^ why would you do that?
if you're gonna swap the trans for a 2WD one ('cause the 4WD one won't work without changing everything on the tailstock), why not just get the proper one to fit a 4.3/5.7?
besides the trans issue, you've got a different cross member, which is gonna need to be modified anyways, and the drive shaft is gonna need to be shortened (or find a shorter one anyways).
