ABS LIGHT

ABS LIGHT
I have a 1996 blazer with a 4.3. For some reason the ABS light is always on. Is there an explanation for this problem?

Any codes thrown? Buy a tech2 and it'll tell you even the bibles secrets.
Any other symptoms? Vibrating brake pedal during braking? It may indicate a bad wheel bearing.

The ABS light on is telling you that the ABS system has been disabled. In other words if you make a panic emergency stop, your ABS system will NOT control your braking and you WILL lock up your brakes, tires and skid to a stop. This means it will take you longer to stop. The ABS system prevents the tires from locking up and this helps reduce the stopping distance.
Now you need to find out why the ABS light is on.
What year is your truck?
Are you low on brake fluid?
Do you have All-Wheel ABS? Do you know?
There are several possibilites, however I don't feel like typing all the possibilities until I know more about your truck.

1996, brake fluid is fine, not sure about all-wheel abs, but i think it is .

The likely candidate is a bad/dirty sensor. Search the site. I saw some info on how to pull the codes for the ABS system.

RE: ABS LIGHT
A Tech2 is a scanner used by the dealerships. It costs ~$1800. Not just something you are going to run out and purchase.

Anyway, from looking back, I found out you have a '98 2dr 4x4. There are ABS wheel speed sensors in each of the front hubs and I believe that the EBCM (electronic brake control module) monitors the transmission output speed sensor for the RWAL (rear wheel anti-lock).
