Default Hypertech Thermostat

What are the benefits of the 180degree Hypertech Thermostat? Is it worthless without a Hypertech PP3? Also, where is the stock thermostat located in the engine bay? Anybody else have one on their truck? Thanks!

Find the upper radiator hose. follow it to the engine. The t-stat is under the t-stat housing. you will need a ratchet and at least a 6" extension. (2) 8mm? bolts hold it down. Dont forget to look at the direction it came out of the engine. (Springon the bottom when installing.)

You would have to get the PCM reprogrammed for the fan to turn on at a cooler temp to get the full effect.
I installed one years ago on my Impala. It threw genericcoolant codes all day. I reinstalled the OEM.

You don't need to reprogram the computer for a 180* t-stat. My t-stat was stuck open and I did not get an SES light or codes that I could tell. But the computer will start to complain if the temps don't reach 170* after a specific amount of time. Most people tend to install the 160* t-stats then complain about SES lights going off, it is the only temp range t-stat that would require a computer retune. The stock is 195* and most engines dash-o-meter will read between 200-210 for normal range... Generally when you lower the coolant temps the computer will compensate with more fuel since it thinks that the temps are cooler.. so you might see a slight drop (1-2mpg) in gas mileage...
