Looking for Engine rebuild towing enhancements?
My brother is about ready to tear into my 1993 vortec 4.3l engine. Currenlty it smokes when you start it up. Then when it warms up it idles rough. We are looking at opening it up. Seeing what is worn out. Replace and put back together. He wanted me to ask if there was any upgrades that could be done to enhance engine for towing. I snooped around the board but most of this stuff I don't know what I'm reading about. But he does. For instance maybe a crank shaft upgrade. We both know this is basicly a v8 with the last 2 cylinders removed. My attitude if we see anything wrong we will replace it correctly. I don't like half @$$ jobs. Now I never had any problem towing with the other s10 blazers I used with the factory engine and towing kit. Luckly this blazer never had a hitch or anything on it. So please suguest away. Also anything we need to look for upon tear down. We already know about the nut kit and spider fuel inejector. It was suspose to have been replaced by the last owner. So we have a good idea on some things to check for.
Thanks,
Josh

Well you could take the engine out and put basically a v6 back in accept with 2 more cylinders attached
That would probably be the best thing you could do if you wanted better towing power.
But being serious, you have to look at your options. A few people on here have rebuilt their 4.3's and made them pretty nice but that is really expensive. most people prefer to go with a v8, either the 5.3 or 5.7. Both of which will give you the same amount if not more power than a moderately built 4.3 and probably cost a lot less.
But swapping in a v8 takes a while and can get really expensive if you're in a big hurry.
