Default Oil Pump

Does the 4.3L engine have any options for oil pumps? A suggestion from an earlier post suggests that my engine (which I am rebuilding) may have been starved for oil. Is there a heavy duty oil pump available for 4.3's? Thanks!

For your 2001 4.3L, both Autozone and Advanced Auto sell a High Volume Melling Oil pump for ~$40 that supposedly supplies an additional 25% more volume over stock, but they both note that it can only be used with an intermediate pump shaft which has a steel guide. I imagine that the stock intermediate shaft has a plastic guide and would need to be changed over to a steel guide. Both Advanced and Autozone have a Melling pump shaft with the steel guide for ~$6.

I saw a high-volume Melling pump on the Summit Racing site for $24! Either way it's a no-brainer. I won't be needing my stock oil pump. Anyone need one?!

the stock pump did have a plastic guide. I will look for the steel one. Thanks for the tips, swartlkk!
