Default Somebody tell me if I'm being dumb.

What would happen if I replaced my stock 1.5 rocker arms with 1.6's?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-C...Q5fAccessories

Is this a terrible idea?

Thanks!

my guess is they would either break a valve spring or turn a non-interference motor into one and possibly bend a valve but who knows, they may work. if you have an extra $100 laying around and you dont nned your truck for a day then i say give it a try. i would install them in one head and turn the motor over by hand and compare the diffrence in sping compression from head to head. if it isnt much and the valves dont hit the pistons then i would say you just gained some horsepower

Just ordered these:

after reading a lengthy thread on how the vortec 5.7's work perfectly. I'll report back after I get them installed, checked for clearance and running.

I installed these on my 98 and my friend's 99 on the intake valves only. We both saw a definite HP and TQ increase from the butt dyno. TOTALLY worth it. I didn't put them on the exhaust valves b/c I was reading somewhere that said the 4.3's need a TON of pressure on the exhaust valve, and the fact that the exhaust valve was most likely to hit. Also, I was reading in a 350 forum that if you increase the intake, you'll get more bottom end power, and if you increase the exhaust you'll get more top end power. Anyway, I got EXACTLY what I was looking for and for $42.50, it was one hell of a deal.

I myself would'nt trust a critical item like rockers on inferior no name or less than reputable company , do yourself a favor and get some piece of mind and bite the bullet and spend 180.00 on some comp cams magnum rockers. comp cams has a well established track record of superior valve train components and virtually bullet proof rockers, and thiere tollerances on each rocker arm is second to none , so if you think your saveing a few bucks on some discount performance items just remember the old adage you usually get what you pay for

It's not like I'm building some race engine. If the tolerances are off, who cares? It's a stamped piece of steel. The ones I have now are almost identical to what came stock. I'm not saving a couple bucks. I'm saving $2-300. They work EXACTLY like the stock ones, and I don't see what there is to go so catastrophically wrong.

You see, these are the kind of mods I can handle and afford. I've been thinking about this very thing, good to know that it works well. I've been thinking of roller tip rockers in the ratios mentioned here in this thread. Stock exhaust and 1.6 for the intake. Gotta get the fuel problem fixed first.
