Default V8 swap: 383 or 5.3l Vortec?

I am currently working on my 1997 4 door 4wd blazer, which is currently sitting in the driveway with a broken suspension lift and a factory 4.3l v6 that is not in much better shape. I am thinking either a 383 or a 5.3l v8 to replace the stock engine. I know the 383 will drop right in, and the 5.3l will require a huge amount amount of custom parts. I was wondering if anyone had done either of these, and any help offered would be appreciated. I have some time before this project gets going, so deciding which motor to use is not a priority right now. Thanks in advance!

I have seen that thread. Its an awesome project, but I hear tell that there are no motor mounts for 4wd. Great info on upgrading the airflow and the electrical work. If I go with the LS I am going to stick to the LM7 due to its relatively low cost. It really depends on whether or not I buy another car before the project. The 383 wold be easy to do in a weekend, but the LM7 would be more fun once finished, and would require a second vehicle while the Blazer is garaged.

I think its the same amount of work with a 350SB or a 5.3l. Electrical should be about the same. Think you still need to tear apart the dash to add a wire. Motor mounts need to be changed out for both. Both need computer flashed to v8. Seems the same, but havent really done a lot of research on sb350.

As far as no 4wd parts. Here is a link to your motor mounts and they have some other good stuff for the swaps.
