I was wondering where the water temperature sender is located on a 96 4.3L vortec. I checked other posts and searched for it but couldn't find anything....I am going to be drag racing it this summer and i want to put a new gauge in it with a much better swing on it and i was wondering where it is located and if its mechanical or electronic? Thanks!

 

It's located on the front top of the engine right in front of the water outlet tube and it's an electrical sensor. To replace it, disconnect the negative battery cable, drain the coolant to a level below the sensor, unplug the connector and remove the sensor. Installation is the reverse.
