Default 03 Blazer oil leak.

I’ve got an oil leak I’m trying to fix in my 03 2 door 4wd Blazer with 273,000 miles on it. I picked it up for $800 and it’s my first vehicle. Bought it as a project because I haven’t had the chance to learn auto repair and maintenance and I want to learn. I have this picture here where I believe the oil leak is. It’s tucked up in between the oil pan and the front differential with the driveshaft moving towards the rear. Anybody have any ideas on what the culprit might be? Possibly an oil pan gasket? Or what’s that part tucked up in the middle?

A common issue with the 4.3L is the remote oil filter lines or the o-ring where the oil filter line adapter mates to the block leaking. The round part covered in oil in your picture is the adapter for the oil lines to where the oil filter would screw into the block on motors without the remote oil filter.

Replacing these lines is a right of passage for Blazer ownrrs.

There are plenty of threads with hints on how to do it.

Thanks! It’s awesome here. I’m more trying to get mine healthy since the previous owner let some repairs and maintenance get ahead of them. Especially with almost 300,000 miles on the odometer with original engine and transmission. For $800 though I’d say it was a steal. No rust at all, paint is in good condition, interior is used but in good condition and it still drives even with all the issues I’m fixing. Hasn’t actually broke down down in over a year. It’s probably fixing to soon. Haha!
