Default 195 thermostat to 160

Hello had a question about thermostats on a 2003 blazer LS

as im sure u know a stock one is 195 i don't like it running that ware if something goes wrong there's not much room to get her shut down and pulled over so i ordered a 160 degree thermostat from summit my question is since 195 is stock temp on these is it going to throw back a error code and check engine if I do this ? im shure all of you know its better for a motor to run at cooler temps obviously not temps that u need a choke to run but cooler temps.

Your truck will complain with that low of a thermostat in it. It also will not run efficiently.

Stick with stock. There is nothing wrong with running with a 195*F stat.

Yes, I have. It will throw a engine temp not reaching thermostat regulating temp code. The PCM is looking for the engine temperature to rise a certain amount in a set time frame. With a colder t-stat (even as cold as 180*F) the warm up time can increase to the point where the code will set.

If you have the PCM modified to change this and to operate more efficiently given the cooler operating temperatures, then you should be good, but just dropping in a colder t-stat isn't going to give you favorable results.

On my 02, the t-stat was sticking open some and it caused it to throw a light. New stat, no more light.

Also your heat will suck too. I had the same thought process and did this in a 83. So no computer to mess up but the heat was just warm

i just put in a new stock 195* t-stat and i am not sure that the gauge is right or not. does this look right? the increments are funky. from the first to the middle is 100-210 so that makes the 1/4 mark 155 but from the middle to the top is 210-260 so that makes 3/4 mark 235. do you think i need a new water temperature sensor that goes into the t-stat housing?
