I'm trying to help a young fellow out who bought his first car only to have a bearing go bad only a few days after plunking down his hard earned money.
So the engine is out and the crankshaft is pulled. And one of the bearings did a number on the crank.
Does it make more sense to take the old one to a machine shop or buy a rebuilt crankshaft kit complete with bearings. I favor the latter because if I have to pull the rods seems like I'm going to end up more or less rebuilding the engine.
So I've been looking online at eBay for rebuild kits and the first thing that confuses me is the what years are interchangeable, it seems there is quite a difference of opinions which years will interchange. I do know the casting number is 1005480 and the VIN indicates a Z engine type.
This Blazer is high tech for me so any help is appreciated, I do much better with 40's 50's and 60's stuff...simple like me

as long as the rods are ok,you can just buy a crank kit. it'll come with bearings. stab er in with maybe a new oil pump and go. Id advise though on cleaning and flushing as much as you can while the pans off. that metal went somewhere.
1989 was simple. some early 90 stuff was different.
