Default 1996 Chevy blazer 4.3 compatability question

Hi. I am trying to find a motor for a 1996 Blazer and would like your opinion:

I found a rolled blazer with a good motor. Manufactured date is 09/94
VIN is IGK6T13W4R0525319 (*PER OWNER thats all he knows about it)

He says the heads on the motor say 'vortec' on em. How do I find out if I can make this work in the vehicle I have (1996 mauf date 09/95 vin #1gndt13w2t2139092)

I can pick up the whole vehicle for $200 so it sounds like a good deal if it will work.

OK, the local GM dealer says the doner vehicle is a 1994 1/2 and that the motor is a different part number from my vehicle.

But they cant say what the differences are.

But then again they say the only motors that will fit in my 96 are 96-98 and from what I understand on these forums that just aint so...

If anyone can give me more info or point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Vin comes back as a 95 model year as evidenced by the 10th digit (R = 1995) so this would be a CPI motor with no guarantees of it fitting.

As stated numerous times in this very thread, you need a 96 thru 01 block for it to drop in. A 96-97 engine would be a direct drop in replacement complete oil pan to throttle body. In '98, the lower intake manifold was changed, deleting the additional ECT sensor that the 96-97 engines used so you would have to swap the lower intake manifold.

Sorry I wasnt more clear in my question.

I guess what I am asking is this:

Since I have available an entire donor vehicle would I be able to put it all together to make it work (i.e. pulling ECM and wiring out of donor vehicle along with the complete motor and stuffing it all in the 96 blazer I have)

I do understand that a 96=98 would be best/least effort but this is the first I've found local. and as my problem has changed from trying to mismatch short block and heads to having a complete donor vehicle avail I thought I'd ask again.
