Default 1997 blazer transmission problems

I have 1997 blazer 4x4. Taking off from a stop light the transmission acts like its stuck in 3rd gear and wont shift and check engine light came on. I unplugged my battery to see if something would rest and now it shifts fine wondering what would cause this to happen. Then sometimes my key wont turn off all the way.radio wont keep the presents resets ever time you turn the key off

As a start, do a google search for "common problems with the 4L60E transmission" (or similar). This will familiarize you with how it is supposed to work and what it is like to have different components fail.

Did you check the transmission fluid level?

For your electrical problems, ignition switches can fail causing really weird symptoms. Again do a google search or a search of this forum for issues associated with bad ignition switches.

Be sure to report back with any discoveries or more questions.

I would suspect the ignition switch as they are very common replacement for this very problem. The PCM detects a voltage drop as the switch is being turned and will put the transmission in limp mode (3rd gear).

Transman304, that is crazy that these could be connected but I've learned never to doubt you! This tid-bit of information is definitely going to be remembered!

Glad I could pass on some information to be used. It’s crazy what systems the transmission relies on to operate.
