Default 1997 chevy blazer header hole .

HI

I have a hole on the exhaust header y pipe were the two meet . Can the hole be welded up to seal it . The hole is a little smaller than 1/4 inch in size . I would need a shop to weld it for me .

Is this a common problem for a hole in the exhaust header pipe to get a hole in it . Its ss steel right most of them are . SS wont rot out . I was wondering chevy had a recall on a bad header pipe .

I doubt it's stainless steel, more like galvanized steel. If it's a header it's after market, an exhaust manifold is stock. The Y pipe could be mig or tig welded but if it's rotted through then the rest will probably be on it's way out soon. Welding it would just be a bandage until you grab a decent Y pipe from a wrecker or order a new one IMO.
If the bandage is the way you want to go you'd be better off getting a muffler/exhaust pipe bandage from an auto parts place. Wrap it up in the cloth in the kit, hose clamp the ends & wait for the rest to rot out while you find/save for a Y pipe to replace it.

JB WELD will just blow out of the hole right .The hole is more near the y conection so it may be better to seal it with something thats heat prof .I dont know what they carry at auto zone for that .

More than likely with the JB Weld. Get a muffler or exhaust pipe bandage. Some are a fiberglass cloth & others use a resin & some are just cloth backed foil tape. Most just wrap around, squeeze it tight & clamp the ends. Wire brush the area, wipe it clean from dust etc & wrap it up - 20 mins = done & under $15 probably.
As for heat proof, close or far from the manifolds - it gets hot! Drive for 20 mins & touch the exhaust tip lol - it's hot.
