Default 1998 Blazer - Sluggish and switches between 3-4

I just recently acquired my 1998 blazer and it seems to have very slow acceleration. I have to really put the pedal down further than I'd like to just keep up with anyone at a stop light. It also has a hard time going any better than 60 or 65.

On another note, at around 40-45 mph it will shift back and forth between 3-4 gears. This happens for as long as I hold that speed. If I am pressing a little harder and just power through that zone it seems like it doesn't get a chance to flip back and forth.

I did check out the 4L60E common problems thread and it didn't seem to cover my issues because I have full use of all 4 gears and reverse.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Have you checked the fluid level? How is the fluid color and smell? It sounds like it may be an electrical issue though.

Its a locking dipstick, its been awhile since I looked at it but its to the left of the plenum (passenger side) and it might be colored.

Its best to check warm anyway. I will have to do some digging. I remember another member having some tranny issues but turned out to be an electrical gremlin.

Ok I checked the fluid and it's red and seems to be the right amount. However a new symptom occurred. It decided when I put it in reverse that it preferred neutral instead. So I put it back in park and then back in reverse and it worked fine. But this is the second time in a week that it's done that.

Once again, thanks for your help!

Anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Hate to say it but it sounds like the tranny is sliping and it may need to be rebuilt.

Is it possible that it could be solenoids going bad or is it more likely that it needs rebuilt?
