you might be having the same problem as mine, everything sounds the same, mine ended up being the shift solenoids under the trans pan, not to hard to replace but something worth checking out..

Ok so I just got done letting the blazer run for a little bit and I drove it up and down the back rd. in my trailer park so it would warm up and I put a quert of transmission fluid in it and it still isn't show up on the dip stick. So I am guessing that it is still low on transmission fluid. The (shift solenoids) how do you test them to see if they are good or not. I also was doing some reshearch last night in the transmission threads, went all the way to page 75. Just to read up and see what other people were saying about this transmission, and people talk alot about fuse. So I checked all of my fuse today and couldn't find any that were bad or anything. I am hoping it is just the transmission fluid being realy low.

The 1-2 & 2-3 shift solenoids should measure 20-40 ohms resistance across the pins.

Okay so I got the transmission fluid up to level and was test driving it to see if that was the problem. Well at first I though it was and then she started to act up again she was shifting fine and then she went back to only 1st & 2nd gear. If this is a 1-2 or 2-3 shift solenoid, how do you test them. I am taking the blazer to my dads shop tomorrow, he has a hand held computer from snap-on, it takes all the little computer chips and all, will this pull all codes or just some, how can I tell if it will pull all of the codes or not. Thanks guys and i'm sorry for being a pain.

You need to have a QUALIFIED person check the tranny out... otherwise you may be doing more harm than good by driving it around and possibly overfilling it.

Yes this is true, but as far as over filling it I don't understand how you can do that if you know where the fluid is supposed to be at on the dip stick, not saying that I didn't I'm just saying that when I got the blazer home there was no fluid on the dip stick so I add a qt. to the transmission and still nothing, so then I added some more and kept checking to make sure I wasn't over filling it and it is now in the mesh part on the dip stick.

I have also been reading a lot about the cat. and that they can cause these kinds of problems, is this true or am I over reading things. Okay never mind on the cat. it's not clogged up.

About the codes and s/e light, when I got the blazer the battery was dead in it. So this would have rest the computer in the blazer correct. So does this mean that the blazer has to run until the s/e light comes back on or no.

Okay so today I brought the blazer down to my dads shop and removed the transmission out of it. Tomorrow we are putting the other one in the blazer.

But I do have a ? the shift box that is on the side of the transmission. What would happen if one of these things was to start to mess up, would it effect the way the transmission shifts and everything. How do you tell if they are bad or not.

Hi read your post.

Do you have reverse, 1st, 2nd gears.
No 3rd and 4th. then it's time to drop the transmission.
I'm in the process of finishing the transmission in my 97 blazer.
I addressed the common problems with this transmission.
Very few transmission shops build them to levels I do.
But with time and research you can do it to.
You need to go to this forum it's all about GM'S transmissions.
Guy who runs it is a old timer who know his stuff.
