Default 1998 S10 surging and low power

I just purchased a 1998 S10 Blazer 4x4 with the 4.3 vortec with 160,000miles. The previous owner replaced the fuel pump and spider injector about a year ago, then it sat due to a rusted out rear brake line. I replaced the brake line and threw a new battery in it and the truck ran great for the first 800 miles. THis week I put 4 new tires on it, and changed the oil and now it surges under acceleration and does not want to go above 50mph. The RPMs surge between 3000-3500 under acceleration. The SES light came on with a P0404 code for the egr. I removed the egr and cleaned it, cleared the code and i hasn't come back but the acceleration/surging problem remains. I want to avoid throwing a bunch of parts at the truck for no reason so any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

Did you get the egr gasket with the built in screen?

Any other codes besides the one for egr?
