I have a 1999 Blazer 4x4, Auto, 169K. I recently replaced the distributor, cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, and timing chain to solve a P 1345 error. The chain and distributor were both worn and the chain jumped a link. Yay, I did solve it... but I had hell getting it restarted.
Here is what I learned...
Forget the timing marks, whether you have one or two. I tried for days to use those marks in every possible configuration. They never lined up with anything significant.
I verified TDC #1 using an inspection camera.
Setting the cam and balance shafts with the dots together, like in the manual, and the arrows of the crank and cam pointed at each other (see image) sets up the engine to be at TDC on the compression stroke for cylinder #4. If you stab the distributor now your engine will NOT run.
You must be at TDC on the compression stroke for the #1 cylinder to install the distributor.
The good thing, TDC Comp #4 is TDC Exhaust #1
Roll the crankshaft 360 degrees and you will be at TDC Comp #1.
