1991 2.8 with around 134,000 miles. it was running fine I stopped at a four way and it died. it's getting fuel & spark. sometimes if I hold the gas to the floor it will run I'd say well below 500rpm's for about 1 minute or till I let off the gas. I get a code for map sensor but the one on it checks out good and I replaced it with a known good one and I still get the map code. It does need a new idle air control. fuel pump and relays replaced less than two months ago. any idea's what I should check next??

Will it start with some starter fluid? Have you tested spark timing with a timing light?

I shot some starting fluid in it and seemed like it flooded it. after the sun goes down a little I'm going to try the timing light.

If starting fluid caused it to sound flooded out, chances are that it was flooding out prior to the starting fluid. You may have a problem with the injectors or the fuel system in the throttle body (leaking FPR or o-rings).
