Default 2000 Blazer - Service 4WD light

Hello All. I bought my Blazer a couple of weeks ago so I am new to the breed. I've owned a Toyota 4X4 for 28 years so I'm not unfamiliar with 4X4 and how it should work. My problem is this automatic 4X4 seems to be finicky going in and out of 2 and 4 wheel drive and I am getting a service 4wd light. I believe the 4 wheel drive is working. I can hear the transmission engage and I can feel the difference in the steering and handling but the light comes on soon after I start moving and then I cannot make any change until the ignition is turned off and back on. A that point the 4X4 will shift in and out fine until the vehicle is moving in 4X4 and then the light returns. I took the vehicle to the dealer to read the codes and they said the switch was bad so they replaced it. It seemed better at first but the problem is still not solved. Is this expected behavior from the Blazer? I would appreciate some advice and guidance about how to troubleshoot the problem. I am pretty good with things electrical and mechanical. If there is already a thread or two I should read just point me in the right direction.

Thanks

The light being on means there are stored codes. Best to get them read first and then work from there. No use guessing when the truck is trying to tell you what is wrong.

My advise would be to take it to a transmission shop and let them run the code, they wont charge you anything usually. Be sure to tell them you already took it to the dealer and the new switch seemed to fix it for a short time, like swartlkk said theirs no point in mind boggling yourself when its trying to tell you whats wrong.
