Default 2000 l.s. stuck in 4 high

Transfer case will not release from 4 high, no major use if 4 wheel drive ever. I am thinking the engagement solenoid is dead or dirty. I am certain this is not a major issue. I encountered this in Colorado with snow and ice and after cleaning and re-intalling the accutator all worked well. Any input will be gratefull. ososbill

The last vehicle that I worked on with this condition, the problem turned out to be a failed gear inside the encoder motor.

How many buttons are there on the transfer case switch in the dash.

Thanks for the respond, there are two buttons on the dash, high range, and low range. Any other input? ososbill

Can you post a picture of your dash switch... The options for 2000 were the 3-button (2HI, 4HI, & 4LO) and 4-button (Auto4, 2HI, 4HI, & 4LO).

If you do not have the 4-button switch, you have the NV233 transfer case. There is a LOT of information here about the NV233 and how to trouble shoot it. Check the Tech Article (DIY) section.
