Default 2001 blazer 4x4 won't engage

Hey guys, I know this is kind of a common issue, so I hit the 4wheel hi or low I hear the actuator on the transmission try to engage but nothing happens and I only get blinking lights. Any help would be great.

First you have to find out whether it is electrical, mechanical or vacuum
What happens when you put it in 4hi?
What do the lights do, do you hear the encoder motor shift, how does it feel in the steering wheel, what do you hear??

Places to start...

I select 4hi and I here module behind right side kick panel, and motor encoder make a noise, but nothing engages. Light just flashes. I've check the vacuum actuator. When I depress it I here a hissing noise come from the transfer case solenoid on the firewall. I just bought a new transfer case solenoid will be here in a couple days. Hopefully that works.

First, is it the Three Button or Four Button dash controls?
Second, what is it you hear from the TCCM in the right kick panel??
Third, what is a new transfer case solenoid??

If you have the 4button version, I cannot help you. I have the 3button version with the vacuum actuator under the battery tray.

4 button. The module just makes a noise like its engaging something and I hear the encoder motor doing something. I do have a vacuum acuator underneath battery tray. No leaks in it.

Sorry, I can't help you with this one. I have a 2002 S10 CrewCab 4wd with the 3button 4WD. I am only familiar with this one.

I am sure there are others out there with the experience needed to help you ..

You can bypass the solenoid on the firewall by hooking the lines direct ....this will tell you if the solenoid is the culprit.

Does the light flash when you try to engage it into 4WD? I think 5 flashes means it is the encoder motor has gone bad.

Mine does that occasionally. I put it in neutral and back to park and it locks in.
