2003 Blazer - No 2nd gear
Help anyone...I took my blazer to a transmission shop. The owner said I no longer have a second gear in my automatic transmission. Would it be better to find another transmission from a junk yard and replace it myself or should I have this shop fix it for $2,000?
I am an airplane mechanic, but I do not know anything about automatic transmissions...should i rebuild it myelf, and if so what is going to be my cost?

Are you sure that 2nd gear is all that is affected?

No 2nd gear
That is what the transmission shop said. I drive the blazer everyday. When I put it in drive...no problem. When the Blazer tries to shift, it just keeps reving up to about 4500-5000 rpm then it "seems" to catch. I am guessing that it is catching 3rd gear and missing 2nd all together. I took it to a shop and they hooked up a monitor and drove it. They came back and said I had no second gear...That is where I am at with it now.

I would bet that there is more to it than that. 2nd cannot just go out all by itself. It is possible that the 2-4 band is toast which would take out both 2nd and 4th. There is also the possibility that the 1-2 shift solenoid is some how messed up.
It also could be a malfunctioning shift B solenoid which would take out 2nd & 3rd and is an easy fix in the pan.
A harsh or delayed shift into 2nd could also be caused by a malfunctioning throttle position sensor.
