All of a sudden, my 2000 s10 4x4 has no second gear. 1st gear is fine, it rev's up to about 3200 rpms and shifts into 3rd gear. The fluid is clean & red and not burnt and there is no sign of metal in the pan. I have no lights on on the dash. Trans shop Allegedly dropped the pan and checked internally, their diagnosis is it needs a new drum... anyone expirence this problem??????

 

Drum what do they mean by drum? Your shifting servo could be out because one servo controls 1 and 3 gear and the other controls 2 and 4. I forget which one controls reverse but im assuming its the 1 and 3 one becasue you haven't said if you have reverse or not. These servos I'm 90% sure can be changed without dropping the tranny, the shop would, just to make it easier and get more shop hours. They also aren't incredibly hard to change, I believe somewere on the site is a step by step on how to changed them.

 

If you find out what the problem is exactly, let me know. I work with a guy that is having the same problem. I'm trying to talk him into paying me to rebuild them, but it's always nice to know what the problem is before you start.
