4.3l Engine Swap: 1996-98 into 1995
Hi, I need to replace my 1995 4.3l Vin W Blazer S10 engine.
The problem is that I have access to low-cost "later year" long blocks (1996, 97, 98).
The Chev Dealer says that these long-blocks cannot be used in my 1995 but cannot tell me why-not or how I could modify them to work. I've checked with a couple of Wrecking Yards with the same result.
Does any one know what needs to be done to later-year Long Blocks so they can be used in a 1995 S10 Blazer?
Thanks in advance.

The fuel injection is different for sure. I would say the difference is in the cylinder heads im not 100% but probably the intake bolt holes are different, so the 95 intake wont bolt to the 96 heads and i know the 96+ has a crank sensor in the timing chain cover but im not sure if the 95 does

Exactly correct shane. The heads are different. Some 95's and all 96+ will have a CKP sensor.
If you are willing to swap parts, you can use the short block from a 96+ in a 95. Past 2001 though and the knock sensor attachment went from thread in to bolt on so you would have to drill/tap to 1/4" NPT for the 95 knock sensor.
