My girlfriends 97 Blazer lost 2-3 shift yesterday. I just replaced this trans about 2 weeks ago since the other went south. It only has 125,xxx on it. She said it was fine then all of a sudden it would not shift to third, it just revved up. I had seen on some other post about 3-4 clutches burning out but can't believe it would go just like that. In some of the post I have read it was said to remove the plug from the trans and see if you have third gear mechnical to rule out failure in the clutches, I did this and it seemed to be in first rather than third because it would not bog down taking off in such a high gear. It also seemed that it would over rev some times when I had it unplugged as if third was actually out. Could it actually be a bad 2-3 solenoid or clutch failure or some type of wiring issue? When I replaced the trans the harness for the shift position sensor was cobbled together and damaged from rubbing the front drive shaft. I did fix it yesterday after finding one in the junkyard.This thing is driving me crazy because of little things.

 

Most independent shops will offer a free electronics diagnosis. With the really high end scanners, the individual solenoids can be tested. I would have them take a look at the 2-3 solenoid before doing any more labor.

Well I discovered that it it's indeed the transmission. Went to salvage yard and found a 97 that was a rollover and got the solenoids out of it. Put both the solenoids in and still no 2-3 shift. So I'm going to pull it out tomorrow and take it back to get a replacement.
