Hey guys its me again. Well got my buddies 4wd working good then went for a quick ride with him and noticed mine was not working now maybe got jealous lol not shure but here is what its doing.. It seems to click in the switch but not engaging at all. I checked the vacuum boot.. seems to be working great, Checked fuse under the dash but my fuse box under the hood i could no locate, My buddy has a 99 and his is on the drivers side.. well i have the 3 button 4wd switch.. any ideas.

Could be a number of things. Do the lights on the dash light up? Have you checked over all of the connections in the system (TCCM, encoder motor, switch)?

You say that the vacuum system works as it should... Does this mean that you get vacuum to the actuator when you select 4wd? If so, that means that the transfer case is shifting in somewhat properly as the vacuum switch is mechanical on the NV233/NP233 transfer case. If that is the case, then the problem is likely with the front axle engagement system.

Do some reading up in the Tech Article (DIY) Index link in my signature. If the link doesn't work, try it with 'www.' in front of it.

Your '97 will not have an underhood fuse block. That didn't come about until '98.

Lights on the dash light up, I can hear the switch clicking but cant hear the transfer case doing nothing.. havent checked plugs over yet seeing that its to cold out.. but hopfully today ill get a peek at it.

Ok guys im gona see tomorrow if i can get it into a garage so they can do an estimate im thinking it might be the actuator motor. But am not shure havent really had a chance to look into it seeing that it has been to cold out.

Thanks guys i have figured it out.. was the actuator motor on the transmision that was causing the problem. 400 bucks later she now is working....
