Default 4x4 or standard 4L60E

First timer here, thank you in advance for your time and ideas/thoughts!! I have a 2001 4x4 ls four door with no reverse and it seems as though the trans is causing the engine to hesitate in forward gears. My question is can I use a standard 4L60E trans and if so are there any mods needed to fit a standard into a 4x4 chassis?

4x4 transmissions are specific to 4x4 as the output shaft is designed to go into the transfer case (much shorter). You can change the output shaft, but that requires major trans disassembly. Others can answer about the applicability of different year 4L60E's to your vehicle.

When you say "standard" are you referring to a manual shift? A 4L60E is an automatic trans. Standard transmissions for these trucks are (for example) NV1500, NV3500.

I meant standard as in standard automatic transmission. I just want to know if I can put a non four wheel drive automatic in my truck. It will allow me to more readily acquire a new trans. I dont ever use the four wheel drive any way. Thanks guys!

Transmission must be a 4x4 set up. Output shafts are longer on 2wd and will not work.
