Default 5 Speed Manual Trans problem

I have a 99 2wd s-10 blazer, first gear kicks out when you try to start from a dead stop. I have to start in 2nd gear. Any thoughts? I only have 48k miles on it.

can you hold it in gear when it kicks out? I have a neon the does that in fifth gear. i'm pretty sure its the syncro for that gear. sounds like you may have the same problem.also check to see if there is anything obstructing the shifter or linkage.

yah sounds like a syncro to me(my s10 used to do it in 5th). Do you tear it up in 1st? It usually doesnt happen to the lower gears.

My '85 S10 was doing that to me when I traded it in...

I also beat the ever loving snot out of it, so that's probably why it was happening

Careful trying to hold it in... Mine could bruise a hand when it popped out! lol.

Pretty sure it's the synchros...
