84 k5 emissions removed.
i bought an 84 blazer, and someone before me had ripped all the emissions out of the sensors and messed a lot of stuff up. when they did this, they removed the 2 barrel throttle body, and somehow put a 4 barrel carburator on it. it ran horrible so i thought maybe because there is no more sensors, maybe the efi distributor is retarded now, so i went and bought a brand new hei distributor, swapped the two, got the timing adjusted and it ran great, for 2 days. so now im back to where i started almost. so im wondering if i pulled the engine, rebuilt it with the right intake manifold for a 4 barrel, and pulled all the sensors and switched them with their mechanical counterpart, would it run better? i love my blazer even though shes ugly, but she literally gets 3 miles to the gallon and i dont want this thing to keep eating my wallets soul. is there anyone that can give me advice?
sounds like someone put a different engine in it and didnt want to change the intake to a carb intake.
"New for 1987 was the TBI (throttle body injection) fuel injection system."
i owned 2 84s, a 85 a 82 and a 86 and none of them had tbi on them. so yeah your best bet would probably be to just get a aftermarket intake and do it the right way. my 86 now had a 2bbl on it from a 73 car and had nothing but problems with it. put a edelbrock performer intake on it along with a holley carb and runs like a dream.
thats probably why all the sensors and everything is disconnected, probably no computer in the truck either
before you go and get a intake you need to find out what year that engine came out of. in 1987 they changed the bolt pattern of the center bolts. so since tbi didnt come out until 1987 its got to be that or newer.
heres a good website that tells you how and where to find the year of your engine and what it is
